Been waiting patiently for the red harvester ants (Pogonomyrmex occidentalis) to fly. Finally had a good size storm come through on Saturday afternoon. Some colonies flew today around noon. I was able to collect 34 queens between 6pm - 7pm.

Congrats on grabbing the species you wanted. :)

Remember these ants are semi-claustral and that you need to feed and clean up after them. :?
If you enjoy my expertise and identifications, please do not put wild populations at risk of disease by releasing pet colonies. We are responsible to give our pets the best care we can manage for the rest of their lives.

Yes, plenty of cool ants all the time in Florida! You'll do well there.

I was under the impression that Red Harvester Ant was a generic term that covered all the Pogo's that were red, no?? Kinda like Carpenter Ant covers all the Campo's, Field Ant covers Formica's etc. Happy to learn though, so let me know...
