So I'm trying to catch some of these beautiful girls this season before they're gone and was looking for some tips and tricks.
most ants I'd just flip over rocks and stuff till I got lucky, but seeing as they like rotting wood more, I was wondering if I should be looking in forests where there's lots of deadfall, or would they be just as likely to be in parks and yards? Also what time of day is best?
Thanks in advance

Re: Catching Camponotus
I'd say your chances of catching them are better at the edge of forest areas, like trails for instance.
I am the proud keeper of 2 Camponotus ligniperda Queens, which are currently residing in their test tubes. I plan to house them in a Camponotus Large Hybrid Nest 2.0 once they've grown and survived the hibernation period. After that I want to release them into a paludarium I designed with a more natural environment.

I haven't posted my latest changes yet, but you'll get the gist of it.
Hope you catch some queens!
