Check under some rocks/logs to see if u can find some pre/flighted queens, u better hurry up it is coming to a close soon.JacobSyndeo wrote:I've had so much trouble finding any in the Pittsburgh area. I have my one Solenopsis molesta queen, but that's all.
She's been doing fine lately, still alive and moving about, but I don't even know if she's fertile. She's a relatively small species, so I don't think I'll even be able to see her eggs, if she even DOES lay them. And what if she waits until the spring to lay? So many variables…

If you're near Shadyside, Pittsburgh, get out there now! I've caught five flying around a local park over the past 10 minutes! One even landed on my face, LOL! I've seen about 7 more that I couldn't catch, they were flying too high.

Here are the beauties! (I take this pill bottle with me to catch them and bring them home before putting them in their test tubes.)
I posted an ID thread here, if any of you happen to know what species these queens are:

Take a peek outside on any windless days above 70 degrees, and you may find some late fliers.
