Nuptial Flight Sightings: New York

Decided to create a thread because I never see any threads on New York. Right now, because of the warming arctic, all of the weather patterns are messed up, it's still 40 degrees here and its the middle of April, yet in Alaska they had the warmest December (above average by 20-30 degrees) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQliow4ghtU Anyways, has anybody had nuptial flight sightings yet despite it still being kind of winter? There was this weekend in which it was 70 degree weather down in the city on saturday so if any ants came out, they're probably dead from the cold now

I believe I saw a camponotus queen a couple of nights ago when it was in the 80's. Spotted her in the morning on my way home from work, but unfortunately had nothing on my to catch her. Saw her in the light under my front step. Hope that helps!

I've been keeping an eye out and haven't seen anything yet either, weather or location has been fitting enough for them I suppose. Will update if I see anything, hope others do the same!

I've been looking for queens for a month now. Not a single one out there. I'm guessing all the cold and gloomy weather we've been having has slowed things down. Though in the recent week or two, there's been a steady increase in workers' presence, so hopefully we'll start seeing them soon.

I agree ive seen some heavy activity the past few days. Weather has bern warming up and its been very dry the past 2 weeks until tonight. First rain fall in a bit.

Also one of the warmer nights we've had kn a while. Might be a good morning to look for some queens.

Just posted this on youtube... heres the description below the link.

https://youtu.be/UZ-I_1AkQ3Y

"Its 4am upstate New Yoek and here's a tetramorium colony ive been keeping tabs on for a few weeks now. And this has been the most active they have been during the night since ive started watching them. We had recent rainfalls a few hours ago and im sure they are rebuilding at the moment but they have definitely become more active in the past 7 days. Exciting stuff to see and hoping i could catch a queen straight from this colony."

Got really cold and windy here the last two days. If there were any flights, they probably got blown to Minnesota by now. Hopefully that changes soon.

Still nothing around here. Supposedly, we're going to get a thunderstorm Monday, and it's going to be really hot. So perhaps we'll see something then!

Couldn't sleep all night, and decided to go for a walk around 7:30. As soon as I stepped out of the apartment building I live in, I found a dead male. Tetramorium as far as I could tell. So that was encouraging and I kept walking. Nothing. Just workers running around. After about an hour, I spotted a queen with one wing, aimlessly wondering around the sidewalk right in front of the hotel. I must have looked ridiculous to the staff, but I knelt and put her in a tube. Wondered around the streets for another hour and found nothing. Headed home, just happy I got one queen. Got into my apartment building, and there was another queen running around the lobby floor. No idea how she got there, but I scooped her up as well. Both seem to like the wet cotton in the tube a lot. So, hurray!
