The start of Angelique's Colony

Re: The start of Angelique's Colony
Ok well all's been going well with the colony so far. They and fully accepted the queen as their own, she has been laying eggs and today I noticed two large pupa! Looks like they have progressed far enough that they have decided they need some larger sisters!
The picture seems a little fuzzy but thats because the humidity is a little high right this second (just added water yesterday and unlike vertical nests it settles on the glass of the hybrid nest) but you can see the two larger pupa.

Wow that is great that the queen has been accepted! Question: How are you heating the nest?

Small little 5 watt flat tank heater setting near it. Not under it becauses extreme condensation. Normally it's on a timer that powers it during the day and at night it shuts down. Simulating day warmth.ooper01 wrote:Wow that is great that the queen has been accepted! Question: How are you heating the nest?

Nope, the queen died but I transplanted another queen and moved them into the soil nest. Thriving and getting bigger every day. Posting a video on the soil nest in a few mins showing them swarming some superworms I fed them today.

Re: The start of Angelique's Colony
Never knew Fire ants accepted other queens. When I had Fire Ants (Four queen colony) the killed 3 of the queens and left only one. Must have introduced the at the wrong time.
An ants' strength can be rivaled by few animals compared to relative body size.
