Hi all new to ant keeping starting to learn, 1st of all ants are not acting right this year everything is early missed the winter ants they flew in the snow >.>. But at 7k feet up I get it then came march boom 75f for 2 days quick outside test tubes in hand. Well I missed the winter ants but with a flip of 1 piece of placed bark in the yard, win. camponotus pennsylvanicus x3 had them for awhile 2 have brood one i think is in distress wont produce test tube changed her gave her less room and more dark hope that helps. Better pictures will come was in a hurry didn't want to stress them to much. Before anyone ask yes I checked for wing scars these are not majors close but the scars where the tell tell. No wings on these ladys made it hard to be sure. I was in the yard with tube out and a magnifying glass.

nice find. Although i would put more cotton on that leftmost queen. Camponotus are really strong queens and can sometimes be able to push cotton if it does not fit or if their is to little of it. Trust me i had a queen escape that way.

Yeah top left about that queen, that queen is the devil  she bites chews threw the smaller cotton :o and over all causes me to be glad I put there test tubes in another container with a good lid. Note to self extra cotton and no thin plastic. Decided to treat all them with a honey drop one reject. One ate 1/2 and one i thought i was going to have to take it away. Thought she was trying to drown herself in it. Her over all size almost tripled I think she was hungry. These queens might be from last years flight I am thinking.

i think the plastic is OK unless it is soft(which is not what test tubes are made out of so you should be OK).
