Nanitics almost here!

I just dug my L. niger queen out of the drawer to see how she's getting on.
She's been a bit slow with her first batch of workers, possibly due to her coming out of hibernation in Jan (early I know!)

I'm happy to report the brood is developing well and we have a couple of ***** pupa that are visibly looking like ants :D

I read somewhere that workers normally put soil/sand on the larva when they spin the cocoon? perhaps once they're in the nest in a few months they'll be able to use sand from the outworld to do the same thing. I just thought it was funny that there's 3 or 4 ***** pupa and one thats spun itself into a cocoon :)

huh. Maybe try giving them a small amount of soil or substrate when you get workers.

Yeh I think i'll put her test tube into the test tube portal and leave a little sand in there, see how that works out.

Try to make sure the sand is moist so it doesn't spill everywhere though.
