Caught a Camponotus Pennsylvanicus queen yesterday. Had to house her in a container because my test tubes are too narrow. Hope she does well in this kinda-unnatural-and-hard-to-observe setup!
Peace Out!

Re: All of my ants in a nutshell
Guys, i am proud to say my lasius neonigers eggs has finally hatched. I think the reason they didnt hatch was because the room in which i kept them was too hot and stuffy for egg development. The reason I believe that is because 3-5 days after i moved them to a cooler room, the 3-4 eggs hatched almost instantly. Anyways, thats what i think. Ill update when the workers come in or when the larvae turn into a pupae.

Re: All of my ants in a nutshell
Winter hibernation. Not much going on. Lasius neoniger ant count to be above 30 workers. Tetramoruim ant count to be about 15-20. Hopefully they’ll recover from the mold outbreak. Not much eggs in the tetramoruim test tube but a lot in the lasius.

Interesting to read through some of these messages.
I like your enthusiasm when you got your hybrid nest. ^^

Doing some proper research is the best way to start an antcolony.

Help
Please help me, but first let me explain. it all started about a year and a half ago when I got my first ant colony had a bunch of fun, and then after a year the queen died and then later the workers followed, but that is not the subject of my letter. The reason I am here is for round two, I am asking everyone who sees this to please give me some helpful tips, but most importantly I need to know about food, what I mean by that is when I read the ant keeping handbook it said give sugar, so give them honey, then it said give protein, so give them cricket parts. I am sorry I just do not understand it.
any help is appreciated, thank you

I think they're just hibernating, they're not dead.

Re: Help
This could damage the workers/queen, but if you touch their antennae/mouth parts, you might see some movement. If this works, let me know,(if you try) Becuase I haven’t yet tried it. This would mean they are in hibernation.Jaspertheantkeeper wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 4:52 pmPlease help me, but first let me explain. it all started about a year and a half ago when I got my first ant colony had a bunch of fun, and then after a year the queen died and then later the workers followed, but that is not the subject of my letter.
