antnest8's camponotus and cremogastor journal

hi,
I have wanted to do a journal for my ants but i'ts hibernation and notmuch is happening so i might as well start it explaining what happened the last few months.

some where late april
I was coming back from the pool all exited because I saw a queen ant on the way there (but I had no container). I was still new to ant keeping since i had no ants and have only watched the tutorial videos for two weeks now. then as I was almost home I saw a huge queen ant. Instead of letting it escape my clutches again I picked up of the ground and wrapped it in my towel. long story short I found four queens that day even another one in the exact same spot that I found my first one. I all had them in test tube setups (that lasted 4 months!). I quickly shoved them in my drawer and waited. I was not really prepared with no heating cable or out world.

also sorry for no pictures I will try to get them once we get to the present day

Next Couple Weeks
I was really exited about the queens so in the first week a could not help it and looked every day. after the first week though i calmed down. in a couple days I soon had eggs! because I was only planing to keep 1 colony I was going to take the colony that was doing the best. and release the others once they had nanitics.

One Month Later
I had pupae! queen 1 (the one I caught first) laid first so she naturally had pupae first also two of my other queens had pupae.

one week later
sadly queen one lost her brood :( queen two had 4 nanitics queen three had 2 nanitics and queen four had pupae and some were dark.I officially am keeping queen two. and am releasing queen three soon.

so it is about early august (sorry for the not so accurate time line).

so released my camponotus queen 3 into the burn pile she moved out into the pile bu i think she is still in there because in September I found a worker around there and I know we did no have camponotus before.

I moved my queen #2 into a insect out-world I ordered. I named her Bruenor and her colony clan Battle hammer (because I love Bruenor in the book the icewindale trilogy). She in the next couple weeks grew to about 11 workers and had another batch of brood. Then they moved in to a playdough cup I had drilled into the wall ( for a hub for tubing). I was kind o annoyed but let them live in there. I fed them spiders and even put some crushed dry dog food in there. they moved out later but there brood died and 2 workers escaped. long story short she lost all of her workers by hibernation.and had no brood. I fed her some sugar water and fruit fly's (caught strait from the kitchen). This is about mid October.

almost to the present :D

She got shoved into a corner of my room (not even cold up there) for hibernation. Then she laid eggs :? still confused about that one because it was in the middle of December. So right now she is on-top of my freezer in my cooler basement. Finally we are at the present.

so her setup is a test tube in an AC Test Tube Portal with cotton in all other entrances

also my crematogaster queen is in a test tube nothing exiting right now about her (hasn't laid eggs yes but that's normal).

I will now start with the normal weekly report.

ok here is my first weekly update in the present
so my queen Bruenora (added an "a" so it sounds more like a female name)just got moved to a new test tube her old one is still in it I added two pictures the second one is for you to see how big the tube is (you can see the queens gastor).

my crematogaster (sorry for the name of the journal being misspelled  ) queen got moved into the test tube portal and has eggs! I do not know if she laid them before hibernation or in hibernation because Bruenora laid eggs in hibernation. I got a heating pad for christmas and want to use it. I know they are supposed to be in hibernation but should I use it?
Also if any one wants to help give name suggestions for the crematogaster queen I am open for you to do so.

You're linking to flickr's display page of your images. You need to try to get the URL of the image by itself. If you go to share at the bottom right corner, go to the BBCode tab, copy-paste everything here, and delete all of the stuff outside of the img brackets, it should work fine. That code would have worked on its own if this forum used URL and not just URL2.

UPDATE

i just checked on my queen ants and my crematogaster queen has not moved out! The water in the tube is completely dry and i worry she has not ventured out to find the other tube. i think she might die if she stays in her tube so I put two tooth picks in her setup, both covered in honey. I put one sticking in her tube and one in the other. also i put a drop of water outside so she could drink and have some humidity for the brood. any advice would help.
