Re: Is it better catching wingless queens?
Hello EchoMeter4,
I think it doesn't make much of a diffrence. It's still just a thing of chances of the queen is furtilized or not. But usually the queen ants break of their wings if they didn't fall off themself. But it is a good indicator that they might have found the right ant king to start a colony. haha ;D
Well I think it's best to catch both and to release those ants at randoms spots which haven'tt laid any eggs after a week or two. Perhaps right where you found those queens. If you have caught to many then take care of them all until the first workers have hatched from the eggs. Then give them some honey and perhaps some insect so they aren't all hungry in case you want to drop some of them back into the nature. (This way the colony also got a bigger chance to survive because the queen ant got some workers to help her.
Or you could offer those colonies via the GAN Project so you can find a home for those little fellows.
Kind regards,
AntsLuxembourg

Doing some proper research is the best way to start an antcolony.

Thanks for the information!

I want to add that ants who have not mated, still have the ability to lay eggs. However, the ants that hatch from the eggs will be male drones which are useless.
