Keeping Formica Rufa or Sanguinea
I got a queen that seems to be either formica Rufa or Sanguinea but despite that I know that they need a first generation of another ants workers so she can raise her own. Should I steal brood from my lasius niger or should I buy a formica fusca as the host colony?

Re: Keeping Formica Rufa or Sanguinea
Formica rufibarbis is from the fusca group, if this is regarding that queen. But, to answer your question, Formica social parasites need just the pupae of other Formica species, and most of them become independent after that first time.
