Ant Care Sheets For Australian Ants
Hi all,
This is a page where you are more than welcome to post you knowledge of care for certain species. These species must be found in Australia, and you must be able to fill out most, if not all of the template. Also note that you must only post one template per one reply. General Facts
Founding Method - Fully Cluastral
Polygynous - No
Polymorphic - No
Care level - Easy At First, Hard As They Mature
Care And Keeping
Aggressive - A bit, depending on Colony age.
Diet - Crickets, Flies. Processed honey, pieces of fruit.
Nesting Materials - Usually in dirt, sometimes under a rock. DO NOT A GIVE YTONG NEST UNLESS THE INSIDE IS SMOOTH WITH NO HOLES. THEY TRY TO DIG IN THE HOLES BUT END UP DYING.
Colony size - 10 000 to 100 000
Humidity - Pretty dry, but some moisture.
Escape artists - Yes. Be sure to give big outworld and lots of food so they don’t try.
Nuptial flights - 3 times a year. Early to mid Spring, mid December to mid January, Early March.
Looks And Size Of Ants
Worker Size - Small
Queen Size - Medium
Colours - Black, slightly iridescent in sunlight, showing off a purply green and hints of red.
Dangers
Bite - Small but somewhat painful
Formic acid - None
Sting - None
Special Care / Other
They can be really hard to keep at mature colony’s, as they are constantly eating and trying to escape. Contain them with Baby Powder.

Curious about how they are going. I just got a small colony in a chinese food container and I'm terrified they will break out.

Saddly there isn't really a definitive sheet for species in Australia. Though I am working on one some for the species I have but Im still very new and who knows how long this might take.

Ty. Also drshan I see you have an r.metallica queen. It is a very beautiful ant and I am waiting till spring so I can catch one. Any advice would be appreciated.
