Solenopsis Richteri

So I've had my black imported fire ants through one hibernation and at one point I had five to seven workers. Now I only have one worker. I can't see any new eggs and I'm feeding her water, honey, and mealworms. What am I doing wrong? Shouldn't she have laid eggs by now? She is in a starter set up from AntsCanada store.

Thanks for any help.

The link should work now. Sorry about that.

Also I'm trying tuna rather than meal worms to see if that changes anything.

Best thing you can do is leave them alone. It is best to not feed them in the tube as this causes stress and mold. Use the drinking straw technique to feed them in an outworld

Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

I'll post a larger picture of the entire setup when I can. It's not just a test tube it's a test tube portal from AntsCanada.

I also installed a sugar water tube rather than using honey for sugar.

Well my suggestion is that you take out the sugar tube. It will be bad in a week or so. You have the four way, so you can use that to drop in a very small dab of honey on foil with tweezers. Or jam, or tuna, or cat food. Whatever you want to try.
You can also replace the sugar tube with an empty tube or a regular water tube if you like as a place for them to put there trash or move into later if they mess up the tube they are in now, I like to give my ants options, and they can have four in that set up.

Like she said, do what you can to not interfere in the process they probably don't need very much food if there is only two of them.
