Early feeding
My one queen one worker colony just got out of hibernation (Formica Subserecia). Can I give them a small grain of rice (cooked) as a meal?
Keeping:
Formica subsericea: 10 workers
Tetramourium Immigrans: 12 workers
solenopsis molesta: 25-30 workers
"The ant's a centaur in his dragon world"-Ezra Pound
Dream species: Atta Texana

Re: Early feeding
At this age, I would give them easy to eat sugars (honey is a favorite and doesnt mold easy), and protein (meal worms are easy, freeze them, cut it so the ants can get in both sides, and put it in the test tube).
If they are very hungry you may need to put more drops of honey in there. Dont worry if they dont eat it all, honey takes a long time to spoil, they will eat it eventually.
The frozen meal worm will last about a week. Sometimes they like to put it against the water cotton, so you cant really remove it. If that is the case just hook another test tube up and they will move when they feel like it.
Don't be stingy! The queen will do a lot better if well fed!
