So I have a aphenogaster colony that has had a rough winter and I put them in a new test tube last week. Since then the cotton near the water has slowly gone purple. Is the purple bad?

its most likely mold. i have no idea if its bad or not but i suggest that you tape another test tube together with holes poked through the tape. this will allow you colony to move if the mold is bad.
almost one year of ant keeping :D

a restarting camponotus queen
one crematogaster queens
and 10-12 lasius umbratus queens (to lazy to count them all)
