Possible to add a new queen to a queen-less Solenopsis geminata colony?
I have a small (~200 or so workers) colony of Solenopsis geminata but it has no queen. I was wondering, with nuptial flights starting up here soon, would it be possible to add a freshly mated new queen to this colony or would they just kill her immediately? There's no chance really for me to be able to get the original colony's queen so I was wondering if this is a viable option. Thank you in advance!

They will most certainly kill her.

Thank you for the reply, I'll keep them separate; probably will keep this colony going until the workers die off from old age and when I get a new queen I'll start a separate test tube set up for her.
Thank you again

Hmmm... this is interesting. I might give it a try since Phoenix and I are in similar areas (Malaysia and Hawaii), maybe it's a regional issue with being able to integrate a new queen in. I'll think about it a bit more..
