Cotton turning black?

The cotton in my test tube is starting to go black or dark. Is this mold? It's just a queen with eggs right now so I don't know how I'd relocate her.

There are some microorganisms which will take residence in the non-sterile test tube environment. The cotton turning black is nothing to be concerned about.
If you enjoy my expertise and identifications, please do not put wild populations at risk of disease by releasing pet colonies. We are responsible to give our pets the best care we can manage for the rest of their lives.
