Keeping ants in a garage?
Would it be safe to put ants in a garage? Since there could be fumes, smoke, etc that could be dangerous to ants. Opinions?

Re: Keeping ants in a garage?
As long as it doesn't get above 85 degrees F I don't think it would be a problem. I keep my ants in my garage in the Spring, Fall, and Summer and keep them in my basement in the winter to hibernate. I haven't had any problems with this so far. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

I think it would depend on where you live. If you live in a cold area, living your ants in the garage might slow down their growth quite a bit.
I also would not keep them near the ground since the heavy gases will be closer to the ground.

I keep my ants in the garage and it's my first year, will they be ok in the winter because I live in a temperate region and I don't want them to die!

I keep my queen in my attic she does really good in there I don't see why you couldn't keep your ants in the garage but beware of other ants that may kill your colony

When keeping ants in the garage in a temperate region, make sure it doesn't get VERY cold all year round. If it gets about -5 F or lower I would keep them in your basement or attic or even in your fridge if you can. It's alway better to be safe than sorry.

Yeah, if it gets too cold I'm going to bring them inside!AntsMaryland wrote: ↑Wed Aug 23, 2017 1:30 pmWhen keeping ants in the garage in a temperate region, make sure it doesn't get VERY cold all year round. Well, I live in Queensland, Australia so it's rarely under 5 degrees celsius over here. If at any point it does, I'll just move them into my shed (Which is a lot warmer)
