There's a camponotus colony moving into my BBQ pit right now. Moving larvae and food. They are awesomely big with lots of majors, so I would really like to get this colony.
Question is, how? And when? They are moving right now. I am hoping the queen would eventually follow if they are moving this much. Should I look now for the queen, or after they moved? I am planning on taking as much of the colony and brood as I can get right after. I just want to make sure I am getting the jump on the queen after she has left the old colony, but before they get her back out.
Also wondering if these large species of ants (they're huge!) make satellite nests, so I might not find the queen there anyways. I am in San Antonio, Texas region.
