Workers congregating.. normal?

So I have this Pheidole colony with 5 queens and 300 - 600 workers. I fed them some peanut butter. They seem interested and a hole bunch of workers ,mostly major workers were http://imgur.com/a/730qocongregating in the soil just beneath.. is it normal? Or not, if so does anyone have any ideas of why they may do this.

Peanut butter has a lot of oil in it. Gives it that creamy smoothness. I would guess that instead of eating from above, they are going after the most oily part of it first. Which with gravity and soil absorbency, would probably be the underside.


Either that or they could be a holding a secret meeting to plot evil.

Pheidole will need insect protein, not peanut butter.

Pheidole need LIVE food. These ants are hunters, not scavengers.
You will see that they are exponentially larger interested in any food that moves.

Should he go with fleshy food like grubs and worms or would beetles and flies be okay?
