My queen which I think is Nylanderia cf. flavipes just got 7 workers. I gave them an outworld, but fed them sugar water before hand anyway. I left some wet cat food and more sugar water in their outworld, as well as a crushed sunflower seed, but aren't seeing any activity. Is this because I fed them before, or should I switch the food?

Also, they seem to be one of the species that cannot sense red light, as they acted like in darkness when I first put the film on them.

Re: Nylanderia cf. flavipes
Usually with a small colony like that I would feed them directly in the test tube. But They will come and eat when they are hungry as long as the cat food doesn't dry up. I don't like using cat food because of the stench. The trick is to make food available to them frequently so it's there whenever they want it. And definitely try giving them a bunch of different foods/seeds. Then you will figure out what their favourite food is.

Yeah, but I think it's a ton easier to feed them outside of the tube. It's alot more like what they would do in the wild.

Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

Same. And they forage A LOT. They've taken sand into the tube as well. So I'll suspect they're happyidahoantgirl wrote: ↑Fri Jul 14, 2017 11:12 amYeah, but I think it's a ton easier to feed them outside of the tube. It's alot more like what they would do in the wild.
