So two weeks ago I caught a large Camponotus queen (Big Black Betty) and I've been keeping her in this big medicine vial with a wet cotton ball, but there is a black spot of mold that's been growing larger and concerning me.
What baffles me, however, is her fascination with it. She sits right on top of it almost constantly, and adjusts it with her mandibles on occasion. Is this normal? I've never owned Camponotus before so I don't know if they have any odd quirks like this.
Should I be concerned?

If it's concerning you, then you should move her out to a new test tube.
Proverbs 6:6-8
Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

There's probably nothing wrong with what is causing the discoloration. I don't think there is any reason for her to be near it other than that she doesn't mind it.
