wait... have you mixed colonies? Why are the red ants attacking the black queen?
Proverbs 6:6-8

Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

That's the queen's cohort.

A cohort is a group of individuals with something in common, so the cohort to an ant queen is a group of workers which constantly pamper and attend to her. When the queen is significantly larger than her workers, they walk all over her. I'm thinking this is a Carebara sp.? The Oecophylla is being treated similarly.

When our colonies get large enough, it will be difficult to find the queens engulfed underneath workers.

Ah ok. I gotcha now. Wish I had a cohort of workers to pamper and attend to all my needs. My wife just isn't cutting it lol. Just playin :lol:

Yes, they are daughters, not attacking the queen.

It`s Carebara melasolena, very beautiful and rare sp. of Carebara in China.

I love those Pheidole colonies as well. I'll be very lucky if I find that genus in my state. They exist just outside of my border. Great pictures!
