Earwig Mama in a Cup with her 80 Eggs: Need Advice
Hello! I am not an avid bug fan, but I have an urgent need for advice. I found a female earwig eating my cauliflower. I think she came with the packaging of the veggie since she was inside the wrapping after I took it out of the fridge. I put her in a cup because I thought she was pretty cute and decided that I would let her finish the cauliflower before I released her elsewhere. I've read that they have very maternalistic behaviors and take care of their clutch until maturity. Unexpectedly, yesterday I found that she had given birth to a whole bunch of eggs! It is currently winter where I am and I read that they usually borrow underground to hibernate at this point. I read that earwigs only really give birth in the spring. I don't know what to do and don't want to just throw them outside! I've grown attached to the mama earwig and want her to be successful in her caretaking, but I don't think I'm ready to have 100+ earwigs crawling around. Please help!
