Are tetramorium the tiny black ants that you see everywhere???? Also all I find when looking for ants is black ants. Where else do I need to look

Technically, Tetramorium Are Often Referred As 'Pavement Ants'.
And A Lot Of Ants, Are Naturally-Colored Black. Do You Mean Less Invasive Species, And More Uncommon Ones?

Where are you? Where I live, those tiny black ones are Tapinoma or Nylanderia. Compare the ants you see to Tetramorium and those other 2. Surprisingly, I only see pavement ants in woods.

They could be a species of Pogonomyrmex "carpenter ants"
I am in western CA as well.

Pogonomyrmex would be "harvester ants".

The basic premise is that common names like "black ant" are worthless.

Lol I meant harvester ants.
My brain stopped working earlier cuz I only got 3 hours of sleep :P
And I don't live in west CA I live in Southern CA, dang I think I lost my brain this morning.
