Aphaenogaster sp. Got my first ant colony

First question is how much space do I need for this type of ant?

Second what kind of food is best?

How fast does the species grow their colonies size?

And how wet do I need to keep their environment?

hey mate! congrats on your first Ant! Im not sure about this specfic species but i do know that mealworms, crickets and cockroaches are very good protien sources for your ants, sugar water or honey is also a great sugar source.

Remember you should have a regular:

Protien Source
Sugar source
Water source

hi again, i've done a tiny bit of googling and i have found this,

Nutrition: Honey- or sugar water and insects
Hibernation: Yes
Temperature: 20 - 28 °C
Humidity: dry
Nest building: Soil nests, also under stones
Planting: nothing specific
Class: easy
Specifics: Haired ant with longish heads

I also read that they can be aggressive so be careful!

You probably got this information about the desert Aphaenogaster. The forest-dwelling ones would actually prefer some moisture. Do you have a formicarium for them?

I was gonna say something but forgot to get back on here . The kind you have will like moisture. The ones I have come across and the colony I have all lived in real moist rotten wood. Mine love termites as well as prekilled (frozen then pulled apart kinda) wood roaches that I find in the logs as well when collecting termites. They have eaten some seeds that I crush as well somewhat. I get those from wild bird seed you can buy at the store but they prefer the other sources of protein a lillte better. If I can remember, I'll post a pic of my setup once I get off work.
