I'd think it might also depend on location. If there in a inconvenient spot and there future might turn grim. I don't see too much harm in carefully extracting them.
That is a good point to point out. But just finding an established Colony that is doing fine to me wouldn't be that beneficial. Plus it takes out the "moments" you have when raising a colony from just a single queen. The feelings and experience you get when starting with a single queen is unexplainable :-)
Keeping:
Camponotus subbarbatus
Formica pallidefulva x2
Formica subsericea x4
Lasius sp
Tetramorium immigrans x2
Dorymyrmex bureni

Founding:
Formica pallidefulva
Unknown sp x2

Still on my first queen myself. Her second clutch is about too hatch any day now! Her outworld is all set and I'm just waiting for the queue to let her expand :3

Having kept 7 colonies in the past few years, I agree. There is nothing more exciting than watching your first workers drag the cricket into their nest to devour it.

cool XD I really hope to be able to catch some fertile queens, already found a bunch of alates without wings at a pogonomyrmex nest, does that mean they've mated?

No it doesn't mean for sure, but that could go for every single queen ever caught so you might as well try to catch them.

If they're at nest entrances, no. They aren't mated.
