Where and when to start

So, I live in the Kansas City area, and I have become fascinated in the idea of caring for an ant colony. However, I'm not sure what ants are in my area, let alone good ants for beginners. I was wondering if someone could inform me. Thanks!

The best ants for beginners are (for the most part) whatever you find first. ;)

This might help to figure out what is in your area:

If you enjoy my expertise and identifications, please do not put wild populations at risk of disease by releasing pet colonies. We are responsible to give our pets the best care we can manage for the rest of their lives.
