June to July, after rains. These tend to fly only after larger storms.

Larvae do but eggs don't need to be fed. That would make sense for larvae though.

Temnothorax Hunting

I found a few small colonies of what I think are temnothorax, they nested in dirt. The other day I went hunting in acorns and sticks, but found nothing other than some beetle larvae. I wanted to know if anyone had a method of looking for this species, and what to look for. Any help would be apprecia...

Tetramorium doesn't really need hibernation as they are native to tropics/subtropical regions where they don't need to hibernate. Also, ants in the bay area don't hibernate, as it stays warm enough for ants to not hibernate. They may slow down though, but they can be kept at room temperature and don...

Yeah, your flies are probably safe then. Also, temp doesn't always trigger hibernation. Mine decided to start hibernating end of August when time was still round eighty degrees some days. They have minds of their own...

I am pretty sure both are Iridomyrmex Sp. Congratulations on catching your queens!

Wow... with that amount of brood I would think they went at least one winter before you got them. Congratulations on such a great colony!

Amazing! Do you know if this colony was purchased in it's first year or after hibernation?
