Re: Help Identify

Thats a decent egg pile. Theres probably around ten there, if we give it another 4 months this year, 3 months of hibernating, and a month for the next batch to eclose, we are looking at around 8 months of test tube time. You can put them into an outworld with just test tube, ants australia on YT has...

Re: Quick Tetramorium ID method

I've found it can be tricky without getting up close, at least with the ***** eye. If they are stinging their prey thats one way, I thought ant was tetramorium, once I got her under a magnifying lens it was Tapinoma sessile.

Re: Need help for queen identification.

The worker is tetramorium, likely just attacking, because they are quite territorial, even to newly mated tetramorium queens. The queen looks like some sort of lasius, I would say neoniger is more likely in the US.

I think the queens too small to be that
if she is around 4 mm, lasius flavus is around 5mm, so margin of human error/maybe she just small.

Actually I'm starting to lean pheidole, in the pic of the underside, see how the petiole appears long and thin, in brachymyrmex it is shorter and stockier.

You appear to have Pheidole dentata

Re: Queen ant (I think) ID - Lawrence, KS - 7/13/17

I disagree. This looks like Pheidole to me, but I would appreciate clearer photos of the petiole. Yeah, it depends on the petioles. It could very well be either from these pics, wings make getting pics for ID hard. EDIT: But review of the head reveals that it is probably pheidole. For future refere...
