Re: Grace Ant Journal
Checked on my queens, queen number three did not make it, not sure why. She did not lay eggs, just was dead when I checked on her. The other two have eggs, I believe I also saw larvae. Was not able to look closely, took them out, glanced, put them back. Meant to get pictures, but did not. May get so...

Re: Lost my first ever queen ant
It happens, far too often for me. I quit a while back due to losing so many queens. I would have them get to 10-15 nanitucs. Then they would slowly die off. Started back recently due to accidentally acquiring three queens. Giving it another go. Just hate having them die. Sorry for your loss. Everyon...

Re: Grace Ant Journal
Decided to take an extended break from ant keeping. Got tired of my queens dying off. Had basically forgotten about anting. Three days ago it happened again. My daughter, the biology major, and amateur entomologist said those magic words. "Hey, theres a queen". So I walk over and sure enough there i...

Re: ARK-LA-TN-MS-AL-GA-SC-NC nuptial flights
North Central Alabama, C. pennsylvanicus were out today, and yesterday. Was not looking for them, my daughter spotted a large black ant and asked me if it was a queen. Sure enough it was, test tubed her up going to try raising these again. For some reason I have good luck raising them to 10 or 12 na...

Re: when do alabama nuptial flights start
C pennsylvanicus are flying right now. Found one yesterday, and one today. Was not even looking for ants, just happened across them.. tonight would probably be good if it is not raining and storming. Planning on going to a parking lot, under street lights. If they are flying I can usually find 5 or ...

Re: When will I see ants in alabama
2 camponotus pennsylvanicus found me in the last couple of days. My daughter saw one last night on the porch after yesterday's rain. Was planting some bushes in the yard today and one crawled up my arm. So, C pennsylvanicus have been flying, tonight under street lights in a parking lot might be a go...

Re: Mite? On queen ant
The mite is back, will try refrigerating to see if it drops off. If that does not work may try to remove it with a microscope. It is very tiny, barely visible with the ***** eye.

Re: Grace Ant Journal
Noticed from my journal that I went out around 8:30-9:30 on my most successful trips. Tonight was later, not sure if they fly around a certain time of the night. But I have noticed the fire ant nuptial flights have been starting around 1:30 to 2:00 pm. They flew last week at 2:00 pm. This week they ...

Re: Grace Ant Journal
Went out to a couple of spots where I caught quite a few Camponotus queens a couple years back. Have been checking these spots every day for the last week or two. It was June 3 last time I started catching C. castaneus queens. I went out at 10:30 then to a second spot at 11:00. Did not see any queen...
