Re: Hybrid nest for iridomyrmex sp.
The reason I steered him away from AntsCanada products was because I don't think that the products AntsCanada have for sale are best for an iridomyrmex colony. I was looking out for his best interest. It has nothing to do with anger or trying to undermine AntsCanada. No problem at all. Its just a g...

Re: Solenopsis invicta (Polygyny)
There has been cases where they have but its rare to go past the founding stage. Usually after a bit the workers will decide on their true queen and the other will be killed.

Re: Hybrid nest for iridomyrmex sp.
I would not recommend buying through AntsCanada. I would recommend going to http://grotube.byformica.com/ or http://tarheelants.com/ tarheelants makes your order custom. Also the grotube is pretty nice and at a good price. A good idea would also to be to desing one yourself *I am not affiliated wit...

Re: Fiction to Non-Fiction
I'm usually not too keen on sharing my theories and ideas with others, but in this case I'll make an exception. As a mini experiment, I'm going to see if a Solenopsis Invicta queen and her colony can live to be somewhat similar to Army ants. I have experience with things like this. I've helped adap...

Give me a address in a PM and I can see about sending one to you (as long as the shipping isn't crazy pricey) when I get an empty one again. I might be able to cut the foam for the inserts also.Mojorisin wrote:Nice repurposing. I've been keeping an eye out for something I can use.

Well I got lucky today and caught 9 more Solenopsis Invicta Queens, Had them all in a small (Bad Mike for not having his test tubes with him) and they were all huddled togeather, they all came from the same nest so I wasn't worried about them fighting or such. Here's some pics of the Queens, them go...
