Re: need advice with a barrier ASAP
The GAN Farmer I picked up from had colony deaths after using the baby power, alcohol method. He swears by straight up motor oil. I think the container material makes a big difference too. The cheaper the plastic the 'rougher' it is at an ants level. Which is why quality acrylic and glass are surfac...

Re: What to feed
I think most people use honey/honey-water. My GAN keeper I got my queen from feeds his queens and ants honey water and tiny shrimp and crickets. Honey seems to be the norm.

Re: MOLD CRISIS!
"In my ant hill" I think they put the food in the nest and the ants dragged it deeper. I see three options: 1: Hope they bury/eat it enough (unlikely) 2: Follow the AntsCanada video of transferring ants to a new setup aka DON'T SHAKE/FORCE THEM! Use light and heat to 'encourage them' Nest cycling is...

Basically if our jaw muscles ran down our entire body and we could explosively do the 'splits' with them to suicidally defend the colony.

This..... the most unique 'defence' mechanism. Don't bother trying to find video evidence on the net. Never been, never has been.

Re: AntsCanada Reddit Thread?
Cool thanks for some of your opinions. Yea I'm definitely not talking about 'moving' this forum is any way. Your right too I really like how this forum is laid out, but I also grew up with this type of forum. I just really want to see the ant keeping hobby grow. The forum here has 1700 members. If t...

Re: AntsCanada Reddit Thread?
I totally am aware Reddit has some flaws but that's normally because of lazy moderating. If you look at how the trend has blown up, It makes me think 2017 is going to grow just as much, if not double the influx of this year. I guess I wasn't here this summer until too late but I bet the forum popula...

Re: Illness and Ants
I think a viral transfer is more impossible rather that a risk. Bacteria, well it grows everywhere and is always a risk. I did a quick search and never came across any virus that has crossed the Insecta - Mammalia class, actually nothing that crossed the class level period. Most viruses that affect ...

Re: 5 mm Ant Queen caught in Singapore
What key do you use to identify ants? The AntWiki key for NA shows a very pronounced 'heart' shape from Cremogaster. From what I get the best 100% way to identify Cremogaster is the how the gaster hangs. But i'm also new to this so I may be wrong. What/Whose 'keys' (proper term?) do you use to ident...
