Re: ID this Queen?
If you zoom in on the second image, you can see she has a very pronounced petiole node. It's like a spike coming out of her back.

My first queen to get an egg to the cocoon stage!
After years of not knowing what I was doing when I found queen ants, and most of the time not catching them, I finally got two of them that have laid their first batches of eggs. I caught them last year and had to wait through their hibernation for them to start laying. Now another first! One of the...

When do Dorymyrmex Bicolor fly?
As the title says; when do these D. Bicolor have nuptial flights? While hiking today, I spotted a colony of these little guys and thought they were really interesting looking ants. I took a couple pictures so I could ID them. I'm pretty sure I got it right, but if someone wants to check out the pics...

Re: Found a queen in rough shape, can I fix this?
I tried. The baking soda didn't help at all today. Extra warmth just got her to shake a little. I think it's time for the freezer, since I've heard that's the most humane way to put down an ant. After yesterday, I thought it was just a matter of time for her to recover. An important note: if the ant...

Re: Found a queen in rough shape, can I fix this?
This isn't good. She was standing yesterday, and now she's back in the curled posture... Her front legs and antennae are still moving, and now I don't know what my next step should be. Should I go back to the baking soda? Add a tiny slice of lemon to her test tube? Both? Touch a tiny drop of honey t...
