Your doing everything right, they need peace and darkness, only other thing i can think of is to keep them out of air conditioned rooms.

Thx! :D Just put alcohol soaked cotton balls in the jar with a piece of cardboard on the cotton. The fumes put them to sleep and then they pass away.

Expose the old tube to light if you want, just don't cook them.

Yeah, don't dump them, as long as the cotton is not completely black with mold and spreading onto the queen and brood there fine. They will move when they know they need to. :D
