Re: When to hibernate?

Hello everyone, It is starting to get colder up here in Idaho, and I was noticing that my ant colonies are starting to slow down. I wasn’t sure about when to start hibernating them but I just put them down in our basement today. Are there any issues if the temperature isn’t right for hibernation, d...

Re: Lasius Neoniger Care

I keep them. Other than the fact that the queens wont lay eggs until after hibernation, they are also very fast. or at least the workers are. Very active and interesting. Each colony is different as far as tastes in food. Where have you found them? I would love to keep something other than tetramor...

Re: Idea for a Product

Dear AntsCanada, I have an idea for a product that I wish to give to your organization/company. Unfortunately, I could not post the image to the form that I have just created. To describe it briefly, it is a simple adhesive attachment to any 90 degree ant habitat to prevent their ability to climb t...

Re: Ants in Idaho (USA)

Yea, just tetramorium for me too here, it seeems like it largely depends on where in Idaho you live. There seems to be a good variety of species even if they’re not dispersed geographically. I actually sell tetramorium sp. E on the GAN project so if you would like a newish colony I can help you out!...

Re: Double tube setup

Just be sure you haven't put the tape all the way around the tubes so that some air can get in the gap. I don't see anything wrong with keeping the tubes together. I'd love to hear form more experienced keepers about feeding before diapause. With some reptiles, it's better to stop feeding before di...

Double tube setup

Hello everyone, I have a couple of founding colonies in test tubes that I wanted to switch into new tubes before hibernation. I tried starting one moving with a test tube portal, but they didn't move so now I have just two tubes taped together. I think they may already be hibernating, or starting to...

Re: Caught Sept 4 Toronto

Yea that's definitely a tetramorium queen, I have a couple of tetramorium sp. e colonies and I didn't feed them until they had their first workers. But maybe it would be a good idea to feed her since she was found so late. As far as I know all tetramorium are fully claustral, but it's probably okay...
