Re: Short heating cables?
I'm sure Mikey can look into it but the big thing is that most heating applications are a carry over from the herpetology, meaning that they are applications made for 5gal and larger tanks or clear plastic totes that are stacked on shelves. You can look into small heating pads and such. Biggest thin...

Re: Lasius Niger
Ironic, I have for sure 4 that are in tubes and have eggs. I know I'll be keeping at least one to replace the colony that was destroyed. I might go thru GAN on the other 3 for those in the state of Alabama.
18 days in the tubes and I'm hoping for the first offspring soon.

Look good! Would love to do something along those lines for my solenopsis but they are extremely good escape artists so I can't have a open out world.

Re: Ant Nest Casting
For its original idea of pouring concrete in it and then digging it up to see how the structure of the nest was I thought it was a great idea. But now that its a "cool" thing to do and also everyone's trying to make money off of it as "Art" I think its stupid and very destructive!

Re: New Lasius Neoniger Queen
Check at arts and crafts stores and also hobby shops. I didn't think they would have them but they did. Also any type of science stores (especially one with kids science project kits) they carry them too.

Re: Barrier Trouble
Fluon/PTFE is what I'm going to use about 2" down from the top of my Out world, but I also have Solenopsis ants) so my out world has a lid on it so they can not escape. That's not a species you want escaping at all! LOL

Re: Beginer
You can make your own, there are ton's of videos out there on how to make your own nest/Formicarium. One of the most common and easy ones to make is using plaster-a-paris. It's cheap and easy.
