Re: Fire Ant Barriers

Ok well beings I keep fire ants I'll throw in my two cents! #1 Fireants are escape artist! IF there is a crack these little girls will find it!!! #2 I have tried vaseline, tape, and a few other things but the most effective I've found is baby powder/ rubbing alcohol mix and make a 1 inch strip arou...

Re: Trap Jaw ants in my backyard!

I'm definitely looking forward to the rains. I bought the AntsCanada Omni nest large for my first colony and it came in the mail today. I was getting geeked up about it and decided to check my queen only to find out she'd died. So now I'll have to get another one when the rains finally come back. O...

Re: Trap Jaw ants in my backyard!

I made a little video spying on their colony and got a decent shot of one of the workers. Maybe it'll help for a positive ID? hYuhFhAqBrw And yes, the drought situation is pretty bad. Lots of forest fires raging and many acres burned. Ten day forecast shows very little chance of rain. This happens ...

Re: Ant Keepers in Florida

Just going to bump in here and say hello. I'm in Lakeland and I may need a queen. I have a invicta or geminata queen. I'm not sure which but I have both species in my yard. Anyhow, if she doesn't work out, I'll need a queen. I have nothing to trade (this will be my first colony), but I'll pay for i...

Ant Keepers in Florida with Prenopolis imparis(AKA false honeypot ant)

Hello, I live and Florida and would love to have the false honey pot ant. Does anybody in Florida have a colony or queen and would be willing to sell it or maybe give it away for free?

Re: Trap Jaw ants in my backyard!

I'm confused, a drought in Florida?! It can happen down here. In fact, I've heard that central and northern Florida are having a drought (Like less than usual amount of water). Here is a drought map of February this year: https://www.climate.gov/images/datasnapshots/snapshots/usdroughtmonitor-weekl...

Re: Fire Ant Barriers

One coat usually lasts me an entire summer, although I have not been keeping large colonies for a while. Does your outworld have vertical walls, and is the band of talcum powder at least three or four times the length of the workers? As long as the mixture is given adequate time to dry out, it shou...

Re: Fire Ant Barriers

Talcum powder is the best thing next to Fluon/Insectaslip. If you are applying the talcum powder correctly and still having trouble, you may need to provide an inner rim so that the barrier can be applied upside-down. Alright, do you know what is good mixture to use for it to work? I did notice whe...

Re: Ant Keepers in Florida

Trade for corn bread? :D  Bwahaha  very funny. Do you live in Florida? I saw you posted about building a trench. Good idea. I see you too are catching a lot of Brachymyrmex and solenopsis queens. I love them but am tired of them. The only queens I have now that I am looking forward to is ...
