Re: Ants in Florida

I'm looking for carpenter ants but I don't know when or where to look. If your looking for carpenter ants your best bet is to find one that is foraging and follow it back to the nest. Once you find the nest if it's in a rotted tree that has fell down or an above ground stump you can take a white ta...

Re: Substitute for Ytong in the US?

The problem with firebrick is that it isn't very absorbent and that's one of it's traits that make it good for use in fireplaces, ovens, and BBQ's. You want the material to be semi absorbent that way it holds moisture in the nest for the ants and that allows the nest to stay moist longer.

Re: Anyone in NJ selling ants?

We go by the GAN listings, if there is only one listed then that the only option at this time. Best bet it to keep checking back to see if any more GAN Farmers have been added or you can Email AntsCanada at this page to inquire if there are any more Farmers in your area that may have not been listed...

Re: Substitute for Ytong in the US?

Can't find Ytong (AAC) anywhere so I am trying to find a good substitute for it to build a formicarium. :) Any suggestions? Please quote ur responses! Thanks! I have found that standard grout can be used. You can cast it into the blocks and use a grinder or rotary grinding tool (like a Dremel) to c...

Re: I have some extra queens

The GAN doesn't allow for trading of any kind, and I would make it so that one could sell here, but not across borders. That would make this forum SO much more amazing. Then again, the myrmecologists and people who are very experienced, like 5+ years in this (or those who are very knowledgeable) ha...

Let me know what you think. https://lh3.googleusercon...

Re: Heating pad temp

If your setting the nest on top of the heating pad then yes you will most likely cook your ants unless the nest is really really big and they can escape from the heat by moving to the other side of the nest. Best bet is to place the heating pad a few inches or more to one end of the nest (this is wh...
