Re: Posting pics from android

You can not post picture directly to the forums with phones, tablets, or PC's. You need to set up an account at a picture storage site and then once you upload the pictures there you can then use a link from that site and place it into your postings here via the Picture button (9th button from the l...

Re: Rebellion?

How often are you looking at them? Queens need to be left alone for week's or month as a time. Disturbing them can cause stress which can cause the queen to stop laying eggs and even in the most extreme kill her young and or eat the eggs. During the founding stage you should be leaving her alone. Yo...

Re: Ants won't leave test tube.

If it was me I'd let them do their own thing. I've never used food to coax them out of their tube but as like with many things, everyone does different things. Also I always use a piece of wax paper or tin foil when I'm placing food in a test tube, place the small bit of food on it and slip it into ...

Re: Ants won't leave test tube.

You should only cover the test tube you want them to move into, leave the old test tube uncovered so the light helps them move. They will look around for a better place to move to and finding the covered test tube they will choose it over their old one. It may take some time, ants choose when to move.

Re: Any ant keepers in Virginia?

Sorry I should have been more specific. Any ant selling or trading needs to go thru the AntsCanada GAN project, we don't want trading or selling of ants on the forums itself. Yes if you know someone who hunts for ants please encourage them to join the GAN project so that they may help others in that...

Re: Moving the Queen

Basically they will move when they want too. I usually place my hand on the tube to feel the temp of it to determine the distance of the light. It should not be hot but just a little warm, the temperature change will be enough to make them want to get away from it. You should notice that if it's war...

Re: New Camponotus pennsylvanicus Queen! Carpenter Ant

Caught it yesterday and the temp in the morning was around 70*F. Also yea I know they grow slow but good thing for me I'm in the south so I don't have to hibernate her. And yes I know they love to pull out cotton that's why there is a wire mesh cover on the test tube not cotton.
