Hibernation
Hi everyone :-) With winter on its way I'm starting to think about hibernation for the ants. I'm thinking mid November should be a good time for it. But I'm curious about brood. My queens each have large broods; what do I do if there are still eggs and what not when it comes time to put them down? D...

Dirty water plug cotton
I would appreciate any advice and observations on this, please My young Lasius sp colonies are still in test tubes. They prefer to drop their waste on the water plug cotton, rather than discarding it in the outworld. This, of course, makes the cotton go quite glarky rather quickly. How can I encoura...

I used to breed these until a bear ...

Test tube set up and tub outworld
One of my Lasius cultures has three workers and quite a few on the way. I've placed the open tube into a tub, along with a second fresh tube. There is a plastic cap with wet cotton. It looks like examples I've seen online but I don't know what to do now. Do I keep the whole thing in the cupboard? Th...

I'm super excited, I received mine yesterday. I'm very happy with it too! The glass is thicker than I anticipated, which is awesome, and there isn't any stainless steel mesh. And! It's wee! What a great product, I can barely stand myself, I'm so stoked for the time my colony is ready to move.
