Re: Sidewalk Ants

I'm assuming by 'Sidewalk Ants', you mean Pavement Ants. Their scientific name is Tetramorium Sp. E, or now known as Tetramorium Immigrans. A side & top picture will help with the ID. Also location, and temperature when caught.
Good luck! :D

Re: Ant Journal | Solenopsis Molesta (Thief Ants)

Since my last update, about 20 workers have enclosed, and the colony only has around 20 larvae left. I fed them some almonds and honey and they've been eating so much. Such a big appetite for such small ants. I should've hibernated them by now, but they aren't showing any signs of slowing down. I've...

Ant Journal | Solenopsis Molesta (Thief Ants)

Hi, About a month ago, there was a huge nuptial flight with many species. I managed to catch 13 Solenopsis Molesta queens and turns out they're polygynous. I decided to leave a honey-soaked cotton ball during this entire process, and it seemed to speed things up. It took them about 3 days to lay the...

Re: Two queens in a formicarium?

The queens are together in a test tube tho. If the queens themselves don't kill each other, one queen will still have an unfortunate faith. The workers will choose the queen they like the most, and kill off the other one. I would separate the brood equally amongst both of the queens and put them in...

Re: Ytong nests talk

Where do you find ytong in the US? I can't seem to find it anywhere, has anyone successfully ordered it from anywhere or know a chain hardware store that sells it? Ytong is very hard, if not impossible to obtain in North America. Believe me, you aren't the first, and you won't be the last ant-keepe...
