Re: I may have caught a queen?

You could sell them when workers arrive. But it wouldn't be that hard to take care of the queen. When it's cold just hibernate her colony. Then when it's warming up just take her out and let her adjust to the new temp. Atfirst the colony would look dead, but they move their antennae slightly so you...

Re: I may have caught a queen?

Yeah it could take around two months to hatch. You aren't supposed to move any colony into a nest if they don't have atleast 40 workers. The nests are far too big for one single colony. They will feel stressed out because of the open space and the queen might not lay any eggs. Test tubes are the be...

Re: I may have caught a queen?

Those are eggs. Their waste is brown. You should get her moved into a test tube setup. Oh they are? COOL! It took her two weeks but that's awesome! I don't have a test tube setup or anything though, and I think it might take some time if I order it now I might just as well go for a hybrid nest dire...

Re: I may have caught a queen?

There's no way to tell if a queen has mated or not whether they have wings or not. She is Lasius . I think she might have laid some eggs? :0 There's like a lump of thiny, white blobs in the container but they are suuuuper tiny it might just be waste? She still has her wings too but one of them seem...

Re: I may have caught a queen?

Please take a measurement with a ruler. This looks like a Lasius sp. queen. She is about 7-8mm's I think, it was kind of hard to measure her as she kept moving around. I'm pretty sure it's either a lasius niger or neglectus one, both seem to live here in Sweden too. I've had her for a little over a...

Are the antennae straight or elbowed?
I think they are elbowed? They seem to have a tiny bend at them at least. I tried to take a better photo but she was moving around and I didn't want to light the whole room up in case it would disturb her too much.

Re: I may have caught a queen?

That is definitely a queen. Possibly Formica. The picture isn't great. Haha yeah.. I'd take a better with my camera but I don't want to disurb her too much? I've been googling about and I think it might be a Lasius of some sort. They are very common here, you see workers crawl out of every crack in...

Re: I may have caught a queen?

Not a very clear photo but it looks like a male alate. Possible it's not even an ant at all ;0 Oh it is an ant, that I am sure of. I see tons of these crawling out of the pavement here to fly away every day for the past two weeks. The other worker ants are smaller and black, not quite sure what the...

I may have caught a queen?

Earlier tonight I found a, slightly dazed, winged ant in my livingroom. I've had the balcony door open and I guess it got attracted by the lights and warmth? So instead of releasing it I thought I'd put her in a little container and ask you guys what I should do with her. Or even him, I have no idea...
