Re: Ants in Idaho (USA)

So right now I have a successful camponotus colony and would like to start a second colony ( preferably prenelopis imparis if it's possible) but last nuptial flight season all I could find were camponotus ( 18 queens to be exact) and I would like to keep a new species. Does anyone know what ant spe...

Re: Lasius Neoniger Care

Does anyone have any tips on keeping Lasius Neoniger, like food and personality. I keep them. Other than the fact that the queens wont lay eggs until after hibernation, they are also very fast. or at least the workers are. Very active and interesting. Each colony is different as far as tastes in fo...

Re: I found a QUEEN!

That sand is probably not good for your ants and may be toxic. shedding wings does not mean she is fertile. She will not breed in a test tube. It is highly unlikely that she is mated. you can hang on to her if you want to, but she probably isnt.

I live in Oklahoma and Sunday night rained really hard so Monday morning my daughter actually found a whole lot of queen ants like this

Could you tell me what kind they are https://imgur.com/gallery/M0rIt
Crematogaster! You should separate them though... they will rip each other apart.

Re: Food?

Would ants be able to live on just vegetables? Or would they need meat as well? Also, do you absolutely HAVE to feed insects such as crickets and cockroaches to ants? Or can you just feed them cooked chicken? Because that I have no problem with.. I’ve just been a bit icky around cockroaches... Ok, ...

Re: I found a QUEEN!

No. Ants mate in flight, and only when the right pheremones are in the air.

Re: Open Air Formicarium

I'm looking for anybody who has experience keeping an open air formicarium. In going to try a large plate pulled with dirt, plants and wood for the nest and out world. Under the plate will be another container filled with water to form a 'natural' barrier. Does this sound like it would work? I saw ...

Re: Moving Ants from Jar to Omninest

So I just got my ants from my GAN farmer and the ants are currently housed in a jar with dirt. Anyone have an idea in order to get them into an Omninest? It's monomorium minimum btw. The only way I can think of is to dump the jar into the outworld, let the dirt dry out, and eventually they will mov...
