Re: Camponotous care

Yay! She ate it all up! Thank you. Should we be doing this everyday? Because she's still in the test tube, we have to keep taking the cotton out at the entrance and I'd hate to disturb her more than we have to. Or can we do a fairly sizable smear that'll last a few days? Also, you could do what ida...

How to release a colony?

Hi there! I have a healthy and growing colony of Tetramorium ants (They fill 3/4 of a hybrid nest). I plan to keep them for this winter, but once they grow too big for the hybrid and if I can't control their growth by limiting protein, I will release them. I don't want to have a two nest colony, and...

Re: Tetramorium help

My tetramorium queen finally has her first worker and I'm wondering if the wait 5-7 days before feeding rule applies to these smaller ants. Her exoskeleton already appears dark rather than a light color like other species nanatics. It doesn't matter. I generally provide honey right away, (in an out...

Re: Feeding new queens?

There are two types of queens: caudal and semi-caudal. Caudal queens are fed as much protein and carbs as they can be fed and sent off to mate. They can be recognized by their large thoraxes. After mating, they find a spot to nest, dig a hole, and never come to the surface again unless moving nests...

Re: Pre-Killed Bugs

I just store them in the freezer. Then when my ants are hungry I take one out, chop it up and stick it in a test tube in the outworld. I don't thaw them, I jsut let them thaw in the outworld.
