Re: Are these eggs okay

Ok so firstly I couldn't even find the queen in the pics. I assume that that little splotch of cream color is the eggs. Brood color varies. When the pupae is about to eclose, it gets darker and darker. Your brood is probably fine. As far as moving her go, I would really encourage you to put her in a...

Re: When to hibernate?

Hello everyone, It is starting to get colder up here in Idaho, and I was noticing that my ant colonies are starting to slow down. I wasn’t sure about when to start hibernating them but I just put them down in our basement today. Are there any issues if the temperature isn’t right for hibernation, d...

Re: 3D Ant Nests

I think he means like take a metal cast of an actual nest and then turn that into an acrylic nest. Think like these but clear and hollow. I think it would be kind of cool, but hydration would be difficult. https://www.buzzfeed.com/roamingrosie/6-aluminum-anthill-art-sculptures-that-will-blow-y-h90i?...

Re: Ant proof outworld ideas?

What did you use before? For my tetramorium I found that just rubbing alcohol and baby powder didn't work. What does work is dipping a dry cotton ball into some dry baby powder and dabbing it around the rim of the outworld. it is a lot slicker and more difficult for them to climb. I had an outworld ...

Re: Leaving My Ants Alone For Hibernation..

hmm. I've heard that it is bad to hibernate outside. but question for other somewhat experienced ant keepers: would it be possible to wrap them in a towel and place them in a cardboard box to keep the snow off and set them outside?

Re: Should i hibernate my temnothorax and pheidole colonies?

I live in Atlanta and it finally dropped below freezing last night and I was wondering should I hibernate my pheidole and temothorax or not, they're fairly small and so I don't know if that makes a difference, thanks in advance. If you are no longer seeing ants outside than yes, you should hibernat...

Can I Leave My Ants Alone For Hibernation?(None Of My Ants Have Hibernated Yet :( )
I Have No Items Or Places For Hibernation. Can I Just Leave Then Alone?
Do you have a garage? basement? crawlspace? Shed? all those places work well for hibernation.
