Re: Rehydrating test tibe

Hello everyone- I have my ants overwintering in the refrigerator; I check them every few weeks, and today I noticed the water was very low in the test tube. How should I go about getting more water into the tube? Should I just set up a new test tube? Considering they shouldn't be bothered too much ...

Re: Too many mealworms!

I have a colony of 20 workers and I recently bought a pack of mealworms. There are too many mealworms and some of them have already started to change into beetles. Can somebody give me some advice please? Freeze them. Sick them in a mason jar and freeze them. Store them in the freezer, and then whe...

This question has been wandering my mind for I while. Does Mikey Bustos have an ant species named after him? (I would think so from all he does to help research for ants and ant keeping) :D
Nah, that generally only happens when someone discovers a new species. I'm pretty sure he hasn't done that.

Re: Ants not hibernating

Virginia is warming up and the ants have stopped hibernating. Also, the coldest place I can put them is well over 10c. Should I just take them out of hibernation? Look around outside. if you see ants outside, then it is time to bring them out. Hibernation is not a visible thing. They just slow down...

Re: My Frameicarium Project

I like the concept, biggest thing is the barrier you'll need to setup where you transition from the stick to the tubing. Plan's on how to do this? Yeah... still working on that. :? One Idea is have is to have the tube connect to an outworld the same way that it connects to my nest. In which case, i...

Re: camponotus and ?

I've found out that they love escaping so can they climb over baby powder/alcohol barrier? If they can, try this: Leave out the rubbing alcohol and just sprinkle some dry baby powder in a bowl. Then take a dry cotton ball, dab it in the powder, and then dab the cotton ball where you want your babri...

Re: Argentine Ants?

OK, woah, woah, woah. NO way! that is not good reasoning at all. I keep tetramorium, a highly invasive species in my area, easy to keep, ect.. But that doesn't mean they aren't worth keeping! Also lots of species can climb over petroleum jelly. It's really a lame barrier anyways compared to baby pow...
