Re: Anyone with Lasius claviger experience?

I'm trying to start a claviger colony this year myself. In September last year, I caught a load of Lasius neoniger and claviger queens. They were flying at the same time. All queens went into tubes and then into the fridge. In late February, I took out the neoniger queens and let them start laying e...

In my area, they often fly late afternoon and all evening.

Re: Tube is out of water..

I think it will work, at the very least, it will help humidify the chamber if the original tube dries out I believe. Just make sure to leave a way for air to circulate.

Re: Tube is out of water..

I haven't faced this situation yet, but what if you treated it just like you would when they are not hibernating? Specifically, connect a new tube to the existing tube making sure to leave a gap in the connection method to allow for some air to get in. If the tube they are in now goes dry, they can ...

Re: Black Soldier Fly Larvae as protein source

I think they would be fine. They are also very high in calcium. An excellent feeder for reptiles. I'm sure ants will appreciate both the larva, and the adult fly.

Re: Need help identifying queen

Looks like Lasius claviger workers to me. Could be a claviger queen as well.

Re: Nanitics?

Can you explain what you mean by you bred her? Did she lay eggs and are there pupa in the tube? Usually if you find a Tertamorium sp E in late September, she is most likely a reject. Meaning she may have founded a new colony with another queen but was then attacked and kicked out by that other queen...

My amazing Camponotus and when to hibernate

I caught a Camponotus pennsylvanicus on July 4th this year. She flew into my chest and landed on my shoe. She has at least 18 workers now and what looks like a pile of larva. I'm just wondering when the best time to put her in the fridge would be? I believe eggs and pupa will not survive hibernation...

Re: is it possible to use pill bug as feeds?

I've fed isopods to my Tertamorium before. I think your formica would eat them, but best to crush or cut them first. There is a lot of waste on them with the thick shell.

You could always order bugs online and freeze them when they arrive, instead of housing them.
