Re: Workers dying, dead in nest.

They are probably dying to stress an or are unable to find the food you gave them. That colony is way too small to be put in that formacarium. At that stage, you should probably keep them in a testube or a miniature nest. Normally, ants prefer to be jammed packed rather than spacious.

Re: Queen Extracting

They probably couldn't handle the move. It's probably too late to move her again so just keep her in the set up. Just make sure to stress her out as little as you can. The best way to do this is by checking her at most weekly, and when you check her, do it in the dark with a red flashlight. Also how...

Re: Protein jelly for feeding ants

Try getting that stuff from ants depot. I believe that some colonies will take the jelly but other more stubborn colonies will try to avoid it. I wouldn't use it as a primary source of food but its up to you. I got two jelly packets and my ants (besides my camponotus) accepted it but its not their f...

Getting an ant colony out of a pot

Hey so I recently purchased a plant from my local nursery. I put it in my room and was surprised to find its soil teeming with life. It is full of millipedes, spring tails, and an ant colony. I think its a pheidoli colony with very small workers. I was wondering if there was any way to move them int...

Formica ants in class

I offered to get and take care of an ant colony for my biology teacher. So I bought a formica subsericea colony. But I could use some help on caring for them. 1. When I got the colony, it was 9 workers strong and no brood (I think they ate it) is there any way to help increase their egg production? ...

Hibernating Ants in a Terrarium

So I plan to make a forest themed terrarium full of plants, insects and hopefully a lizard or something. One of the insects I wanted to keep were ants I was thinking about putting in C. Chromdia and or Lasius Neoniger . The tank I plan to use is about 50-75 gallons and should consist of animals nati...

Ants not hibernating

Virginia is warming up and the ants have stopped hibernating. Also, the coldest place I can put them is well over 10c. Should I just take them out of hibernation?
