Mass worker death. Queen + new eggs still living.

Prenolepis Imparis colony a bit over one year old. All of the workers seem to have died within the past week. The colony had been almost out of water and I placed a new tube in the enclosure for them to move to but they never did (original now completely dry), I fed them store bought crickets usuall...

Ant died while harvesting a cricket. (Prenolepis Imparis)

https://image.ibb.co/cmWp7b/20171105_181730.jpg She is dead, and stuck very firmly to the cricket. (Store bought) It appears the other ants have collected the liquid from her gastor as well. Anyone know what might have caused this? The cricket was mostly frozen when I initially placed it in the fee...

Queen caught in Hamilton, Ontario.

Caught at roughly 10 PM after a rainstorm earlier in the day. She is about 10mm long. Her gastor almost has a striped appearance that I am having a hard time capturing. edit: Didn't notice until looking at my post, but she may be injured. :( https://image.ibb.co/fCNbq5/Saved_Image_20170622_234139_18...

Re: False Honeypot Ants/Queen Care. (Prenolepis imparis)

I have one queen whose brood is developing very slowly, is it likely she wasn't fertilized?

None of them look anywhere close to their pupa stage.

Much larger than they were at their initial laying, but relative to the others have developed insanely slow.

One queen already has 6 workers.

Re: False Honeypot Ants/Queen Care. (Prenolepis imparis)

I had found 3 of these queens a week and a half ago, slowly i had introduced them to each other and now they are all in a tube peacefully. I'll admit for the first 30 seconds it looked like they would nip at each other but that had quickly stopped. Fast forward 1 week and now they have started to l...

Re: False Honeypot Ants/Queen Care. (Prenolepis imparis)

Should I feed them anything in particular? Or just sugars and protein generally?

I was planning on trying to feed them some diluted honey on a tray/cotton swap soon.

Thanks for the help.

Re: False Honeypot Ants/Queen Care. (Prenolepis imparis)

I have some great news, one of my queen has her first set of workers. https://s23.postimg.org/mxwfoszvf/2017-06-08_00.55.01.jpg Anyone have any tips on when to feed them, and where I might find more information on an optimal diet? I have heard that nanitics may not need to be fed, and was hoping som...

Re: False Honeypot Ants/Queen Care. (Prenolepis imparis)

I was considering placing two together to see how it would work, but I am not experienced in ant keeping, and am worried about handling them wrong/too often and stressing them out as I have heard they may eat their own eggs/not lay eggs. They have all laid eggs, is it still safe to try and move one ...

False Honeypot Ants/Queen Care. (Prenolepis imparis)

I have recently gotten into keeping ants and made a plan to try to catch queens on the first warm day of spring. I got lucky and caught 10 Prenolepis imparis queen! I have heard you can/should keep them cooler in general as opposed to other ants and that they may seem boring to some as they "don't d...
