Heating and Moisturization for Tapinoma Melanocephalum

On Saturday, I'm heading out to get a Tapinoma Melanocephalum (ghost ant) colony. My plan was to moisturize and heat them like this: (The setup is 23x16x12 inches, with 5 inches of dirt going up from the bottom. A few tropical plants on the top. This is the exact same setup I have for my Camponotus ...

Re: Queen Care

Tomorrow, I'm going to pick up my Camponotus sp. queen that I bought off of GAN. She had two workers, but the second one died. I'm going to start them off in an AC Test Tube Portal V2. This is what's in it: top left: water tube, bottom left: sugar water tube, top right: empty tube, bottom right: qu...

You need patience. Camponotus are a bit on the slow side regarding brood development.

My Camponotus (barbaricus) absolutely love frozen spiders. They also like maple syrup.
Interesting. I'll try that out once they get larger.

Re: My First Species, Any Extra Tips For Me?

Many Camponotus species enjoy fruit as a sugary substance. My Camponotus cf. chromaiodes even goes as far to actually eat apple. Every week, I put a few pieces in and it is all basically gone by the next week. My ants are enjoying the ~80 degrees Fahrenheit I am keeping them at. Since it is a natur...

Out of pure curiosity, how large is their setup?
Yeah, the plants are tropical ones from Brazil. They can survive in up to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and the room is 75 degrees Fahrenheit.

Re: Double Checking My Outworld Design

Make sure you don't clog up the setup TOO much, as you will need to be able to reach the garbage deposits and graveyards to clean out the outworld. So make sure you can reach just about everywhere or atleast see just about everywhere in your outworld. :D Thanks! The outworld isn't too clogged, but ...

My First Species, Any Extra Tips For Me?

I have recently acquired a Camponotus sp. queen, and I think I'm ready to keep them. Their natural nest is done, I have crickets, roaches, mealworms, superworms, and various fruit/vegetables to feed them. Now I'm just waiting for them to get around 10 workers before I let them dig in the nest. Anybo...

That is a nice setup. You don't need the wood as Camponotus can nest in the ground.
You my way I'm heating and moisturizing it is a good idea?
